Rothkamm Law Firm is a small firm located in Downtown Baton Rouge. Our primary areas of practice are criminal defense, expungements, and personal injury. Our team is looking for a full-time Associate Attorney who is invested in our firm's success.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney who is eager to gain TONS of courtroom experience, build valuable connections in the criminal defense field, and develop expertise in post-conviction relief. We are looking for someone who will contribute and fit in with the culture of our office. We believe in working hard while maintaining a friendly and collaborative atmosphere.

As an Associate Attorney at Rothkamm Law Firm, you will represent clients charged with criminal offenses, handle post-conviction relief cases, and develop expertise in criminal procedure. This position provides AMPLE courtroom experience, where you'll represent clients in a variety of legal proceedings. You will also assist in drafting legal documents, conducting research, and managing your caseload. Out-of-parish travel for court appearances will be required.

Responsibilities:
  • Court Appearances: Attend court hearings and other legal proceedings on behalf of clients, gaining significant courtroom exposure, especially in out of parish courtrooms.
  • Legal Representation: Provide legal representation and advice to clients charged with crimes, ensuring their legal rights are protected at all stages of the case. Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Legal Research: Conduct comprehensive legal research to support case strategies and develop strong legal arguments.
  • Client Meetings and Communication: Meeting with current and potential new clients to discuss case details, provide updates, and explain legal options. Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide timely updates on case progress.

Experience:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Louisiana state bar association is required.
  • Prior experience is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools.
  • Comfortability in using legal databases and software.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in legal drafting and documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effective client interaction and advocacy. We work with people from a variety of backgrounds. It is essential that you are comfortable engaging with people from all walks of life, adapting your communication style and levels of assertiveness accordingly, while maintaining professionalism.
