Overview:
Our firm was founded in 1924 by State Senator Y. Melvin Hodges and was joined later by the Honorable Frank D. Harris and we provide a wide range of legal services primarily in Southside Virginia. We have an abundance of work and are seeking a new junior attorney who will concentrate his or her practice primarily in the areas of Domestic law and Criminal defense litigation. There are many opportunities here for more attorneys as most of the existing attorneys in our area are aging out. Our area is dynamically growing through the constuction of multiple Microsoft data centers and we are rapidly becoming the largest data storage area in the world. We are centrally located an hour south of Richmond, an hour north of Raleigh, and two hours each from Virginia Beach and the mountains.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support case preparation and strategy development.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and contracts with precision and clarity.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings and negotiations, advocating effectively on their behalf.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations to ensure compliance and provide informed legal advice.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex cases, providing assistance in litigation and case management.
  • Utilize Lexis-Nexis for comprehensive legal research and case law analysis.
  • Engage with clients to gather information, provide updates, and discuss case strategies.

Skills:
  • Proficient in legal drafting and writing with attention to detail.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to analyze complex legal issues effectively.
  • Knowledge of Domestic Relations and Criminal Law is highly desirable, but not mandatory as there is opportunity for learning.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate legal concepts clearly.
  • Ability to litigate cases confidently in various legal settings.
  • Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $225,000.00 per year
